About the Friends

  About the Friends

The Friends of the Westport Center for Senior Activities (FWCSA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to identifying and funding programs and amenities for the Center. Our primary purpose is to support the Westport Center for Senior Activities’ mission of providing an activity-based “home away from home” for our senior community.

FWCSA augments the programs offered at the Center with exciting speakers, concerts, and events throughout the year. We hope you will join in and experience all that the Center has to offer.

...your hard work is worth it. You are helping seniors to enjoy their 'retirement' years while learning and growing.  I speak for so many friends that write, paint, exercise and attend the talks at our wonderful WCSA. We are not just living but thriving.  What fun you provide.
-Quote from a Center participant.

The Westport Center for Senior Activities (WCSA) originated in the Bedford Room of the Westport/Weston YMCA in its downtown location back in 1973. The WCSA operated primarily as a drop-in center. In 1985, the WCSA outgrew its space and moved to the vacant Greens Farms School.  When the Greens Farms School was reclaimed in 1998 for school purposes, the WCSA moved to a temporary location in Staples High School.

In 2004, the town’s efforts to establish a permanent facility became a reality.  The current building was built on the Baron’s South property, 21 Imperial Avenue. In 2018 enhancements and expansion of the Center included upgrades, additional program and meeting space, a state of the art fitness room, additional parking spaces and many amenities.

Today, the Center is a well-respected facility and is looked upon by other communities and professionals as the model for a successful and thriving senior center. The WCSA is a hub of activity with over 2,500 participants 60+ years of age.

Friends Board Announces New Members

The Friends of the Westport Center for Senior Activities are happy to announce and welcome two new board members, Anne Banks and Prill Boyle. We are thrilled to have them join us and they come with extensive expertise and background.

A native of Dublin, Ireland, Anne Banks has lived in Westport since 2001. She came to the U.S. to lead the international marketing team of a European investment manager, but in 2006, she took a leap of faith and became an independent marketing consultant to the industry. When she retired in 2022, she upped her volunteering for Homes with Hope and started volunteering twice a week at the WCSA. A daily exerciser at the Westport Y, many would describe Anne as a “physical” live wire.

Westport native Prill Boyle quips that her claim to fame is that she starred in a Burr Farms Elementary School play with her friend Dan Woog. A summa cum laude graduate of Georgetown, she recently retired after many years of teaching English but continues to tutor at the Mercy Learning Center. After publishing her book Defying Gravity: A Celebration of Late-Blooming Women in 2004, she spoke to groups all over the country about finding passion and purpose at any age, gave an address at the United Nations, and hosted “Ageless,” a Fairfield County television program. Today, Prill is a grandmother of four, fitness enthusiast, and fledgling painter.
